Ok so I’ve got multiple installs of the game going, got a fully modded and functional 1.7.3 install working with my old saves. Fresh install of KSP 1.0.5. Installed CKAN, picked out some mods. Launched KSP, played with mods. No problems. Closed and relaunched KSP. The mods are there (e.g. FAR and DangIt buttons), but all the parts added by mods have vanished (e.g. sounding rockets parts) What's going on? I can't figure this one out.

I've been collecting a neat little group of mods together but I cannot get science alerts to work at all (I'm not using ckan which is probably the issue).
